Custom Orthotics and Orthopedic Solutions
Since 1960, Marchildon has designed and manufactured custom orthotics in Montreal: foot orthotics, knee braces, upper and lower limb orthotics, orthopedic shoes and compression garments. Our approach is built on a rigorous biomechanical assessment and personalized follow-up, for a device truly adapted to each patient.
What is an orthosis?
An orthosis is a medical device designed to support, align, correct or compensate for a weakened, painful or deformed part of the body. Unlike a prosthesis, which replaces a missing limb, an orthosis works with an existing limb to restore its optimal function. Worn daily, it relieves pain, prevents a deformity from worsening and improves posture, balance and mobility.
There are several types of orthoses depending on the area to be treated: foot orthotics, inserted in the shoe to correct foot alignment; knee braces, which stabilize the joint in cases of osteoarthritis or ligament injury; ankle and tibial orthoses for the lower limb; and wrist, elbow and hand orthoses. Each device can be prefabricated or fully custom-made, depending on the condition and your health professional's recommendations.
At Marchildon, every custom orthosis is designed by an orthotist following a complete biomechanical assessment, then manufactured in our Quebec laboratory. A medical prescription is generally required to obtain reimbursement from the CNESST, the SAAQ or your private insurance.
Our Evaluation Approach
At Marchildon, every orthopedic solution begins with a thorough evaluation by a orthotist.
Our evaluation methodology integrates postural analysis, biomechanical gait examination, digital or traditional impressions, and review of your medical history.
We work closely with your doctor, physiotherapist, and other healthcare professionals involved in your treatment.
Our orthotists are members of the OTPQ and AOPQ, demonstrating our commitment to the highest standards of practice.

Which orthosis for your condition?
Choosing an orthosis depends on the affected area, the cause of the pain and your lifestyle. Here are the most common solutions by condition:
Foot, heel or arch pain
Plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, flat feet or high arches: custom foot orthotics correct alignment at the source. Foot Orthotics →
Knee osteoarthritis or instability
A knee brace stabilizes the joint, offloads the affected compartment and protects the ligaments. Knee Braces →
Weak ankle, repeated sprains or foot drop
Ankle and tibial orthoses support the lower limb during walking and rehabilitation. Lower Limb Orthotics →
Carpal tunnel, tendonitis or wrist sprain
Upper limb orthoses immobilize and protect the joint while it heals. Upper Limb Orthotics →
Heavy legs, varicose veins or lymphedema
Compression stockings and garments improve circulation and reduce swelling. Compression Garments →
Diffuse pain or unclear origin
A biomechanical analysis identifies the cause of the pain before recommending the right device. Biomechanical Analysis →
Frequently Asked Questions
What orthopedic solutions do you offer at Marchildon?
We offer a complete range of orthopedic solutions including custom foot orthotics, orthopedic and custom shoes, compression garments and stockings, knee braces, upper and lower limb orthotics, as well as comprehensive biomechanical analyses.
What is the difference between an orthosis and a prosthesis?
An orthosis supports, corrects or stabilizes an existing limb or joint, while a prosthesis replaces a missing limb. At Marchildon, we design and manufacture orthoses: foot orthotics, knee braces, tibial orthoses and upper limb orthoses.
Custom or prefabricated orthosis: which should I choose?
A prefabricated orthosis suits temporary needs or mild conditions. A custom orthosis, molded to your body following a biomechanical assessment, provides precise and lasting correction — the recommended solution for chronic pain, deformities or daily wear.
How much does a custom orthosis cost?
The price varies with the type of orthosis and the materials required. A detailed quote is provided after your assessment, with no obligation. Most orthoses qualify for reimbursement through the CNESST, the SAAQ or your private insurance, and our team handles the paperwork.
Do I need a medical prescription?
For most of our services, a medical prescription is required, especially if you want to obtain reimbursement through RAMQ, CNESST or SAAQ. However, you can consult our orthotists without a prescription for a preliminary assessment.
What happens during a first consultation?
During your first visit, an orthotist performs a comprehensive assessment including analysis of your posture, gait and specific needs. They will then recommend the most suitable solution for your condition and discuss coverage options.
Are your solutions covered by insurance?
Yes, most of our solutions are covered by RAMQ, CNESST, SAAQ and private insurance. The coverage rate varies by program and device type. Our team assists you with all administrative procedures.
How long does it take to manufacture a custom device?
Manufacturing time varies by device type. Foot orthotics are generally ready in 2 to 3 weeks. Custom shoes may require 6 to 8 weeks. Prefabricated knee braces are often available immediately, while custom models take 2 to 4 weeks.
Do you offer solutions for children?
Absolutely. Our orthotists have particular expertise in pediatric orthopedics. We offer foot orthotics, orthopedic shoes and orthotics adapted to children's growth, with regular follow-up to adjust devices as needed.
