Our approach — from evaluation to manufacturing

At Marchildon, every orthosis is the result of a rigorous 7-step process. From the initial consultation to the annual follow-up, our approach guarantees devices that are truly suited to your condition and your lifestyle.

01

Initial consultation

It all starts with a call or a visit. During your first contact, we collect your basic information, verify your insurance coverage and schedule your evaluation appointment. If you already have a medical prescription, bring it to your visit. If not, we can refer you to a physician who can prescribe the appropriate treatment.

02

Medical prescription

For most orthopedic devices, a medical prescription is required, particularly if you wish to obtain reimbursement through the RAMQ, CNESST or SAAQ. Your family doctor, a specialist or a podiatrist can issue this prescription. The prescription must indicate the type of device recommended and the diagnosis.

03

Biomechanical analysis

The biomechanical analysis is at the heart of our approach. Your orthotist performs a complete examination including an analysis of your static and dynamic posture, an evaluation of your gait, an examination of the joint mobility of your feet and ankles, the identification of pressure and pain areas, and an analysis of the wear on your current shoes. This evaluation takes about 45 minutes and makes it possible to precisely determine the type of orthosis and the corrections required.

04

Casting and impressions

Depending on your condition and the type of orthosis prescribed, we use different impression-taking techniques: plaster casting for an exact reproduction of the shape of your foot, 3D scanning for a high-precision digital capture, or phenolic foam impressions. Your orthotist chooses the most appropriate technique for your situation. This step is quick and completely painless.

05

Made in Quebec

Your orthotics are made in our Montréal laboratory by experienced technicians. The process includes modelling from your impressions, digital milling of the orthotic shell, thermoforming and moulding of the materials, the addition of the corrections prescribed by your orthotist, and finishing and quality control. Manufacturing generally takes 2 to 3 weeks. We call you as soon as your orthotics are ready.

06

Fitting and delivery

At the delivery appointment, your orthotist checks the fit of your orthotics in your shoes, ensures initial comfort and gives you detailed instructions for the adaptation period. It is normal to feel a slightly different sensation at first — your feet need to get used to the new support. Your orthotist will explain how to gradually increase wear time.

07

Annual follow-up

We recommend an annual follow-up to assess the condition of your orthotics, verify that they still meet your needs and make adjustments if your condition has changed. This regular follow-up helps maximize the lifespan of your devices and ensure continued relief. For growing children, follow-up is recommended every 6 months.
